「QMUL and the Nanchang Joint Programme」
Hanna-Khalil Bishoy
Queen Mary University of London, Clinical Lecturer in Internetional Clinical Skills
Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) currently runs three joint programmes. These are international academic collaborations where QMUL and a partner institution both contribute equally to one taught programme at the partner institution. Students are taught by faculty from both institutions and upon completion of the course, receive a degree from both universities. Teaching in English, flying faculty and the opportunity to visit or study in London are key elements of the joint programme model.
The Nanchang Joint Programme was established in 2013, and the London component is taught by staff from the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. The Covid-19 pandemic created challenges for the Nanchang Joint Programme, most notably, restrictions on travelling. Some difficulties remain with online teaching, for example engaging students and teaching content that requires students to perform certain actions such as learning to wash their hands. However, there are innovative solutions including the online hand washing workshop.
